With so few metal bands that have openly LGBT members, you have to wonder; why? I'm sure there are far more than we think. I feel that it could be that they are barely making a living with music so they don't want to alienate bigots (not a great reason), they believe that their fans are indifferent and only about the music, or the band dynamic relies on a tenuous and close relationship that could be tested by revealing oneself openly. I do believe that prejudice exists among fans and band mates, but I'm not ready to make the assumption that metal is much worse than other music when it comes to hate and discrimination. We are, after all, going in the right direction.
